What are soft skills?

Soft skills can be defined as the personal attributes that enable a person to interact effectively and harmoniously with others. Soft skills are required to confidently communicate with power and excel in your career and life.

 

Examples of soft skills include confident communication, influence, assertiveness, public speaking, impromptu speaking, resilience, conflict management, and stress management.

 

Soft skills are on the opposite end of the spectrum to hard skills. Hard skills are known as the knowledge, technical expertise, or ability required to complete a task.

 

Unfortunately, soft skills aren't a prerequisite in conventional education. Therefore, it can be easy to forget the importance of developing such skills. 

 

However, getting coached on soft skills is essential for career success, and is the key to making you stand out and be recognised for your contributions, and move up the career ladder, fast.

What kind of people do you help?

Typically, I help entrepreneurs and mid-high level corporate professionals; manager to director level, who are looking to move up in their career but have been struggling with their confidence in communicating effectively at work and honing the art of soft skills.


I’ve worked with clients who are just starting out on their career development trajectory, to people like a Marketing & Communications Manager from a Global Human Resources Consulting Firm and Business Development Director from a US Multinational Technology Company. I have also worked with business owners including the CEO of an eco-sustainable fashion brand, and the Co-Founder of a 6 figure social media and video content company with 1.3 million current followers on YouTube.

What problems do you solve for these people?

My coaching program is really for those who know they’re intelligent and have brilliant ideas but have trouble communicating them effectively in the workplace.

 

I’ve helped clients go from freezing and choking in crucial presentations and being lost for words, to be assertive, confidently communicating their value, and even asking for and securing that next promotion to advance their career.

 

I've helped them go from feeling high anxiety and frustration to pushing through these feelings, stepping outside of their comfort zone, and being able to confidently communicate their brilliant ideas.

What else can people get out of your program?

As touched upon in previous questions, career progression is important to everybody, and that’s where people generally place the highest priority and desire for improvement.

 

However, I like to think of my program as more of a ‘complete transformational personal improvement journey’.

 

I've found the challenges people experience aren't limited to their careers. Quite often, a person’s fears or anxieties have originated from a core experience they’ve been through at some point in their lives.

 

My coaching helps them get to the core of the issue, and create personalised strategies to instigate true and lasting change. This not only helps in their career but in their life as well.

What led you to be an expert in this area?

I’ve been in your shoes! I've gone from that quiet little mouse, who didn't know what to say or how to say it, and ended up speaking in front of global audiences of 100,000+ people. I then took this experience to the boardroom and presented my ideas to top CEO’s in Australia and around the world.

 

I've been on that full journey from one extreme to the other, and in that position to really understand what you are going through to help you on your journey to overcome your particular set of obstacles and challenges.

 

I also have a background in Psychology and Law, and am a certified professional coach and a member of the International Coaching Federation.

What is unique about your program?

The best part is the true, deep transformation. My coaching process is not just a surface-level cookie-cutter approach, where I provide you with general strategies to help you develop your soft skills and communication. It's very personalised, and I take the time to really get to know your unique story and help you to express your unique voice.

 

It's a 1:1 coaching program; full immersion, where we deep dive and get to the core of the issue and build upon your skills and natural strengths. This creates real results and lifelong change.

What kind of results can people expect to achieve?

You can expect to resolve issues that you've had for a very long time, once and for all.

 

Expect to have greater self-awareness of the parts of yourself you were previously not conscious of, self-acceptance of every part of who you are, and altered mindsets to a more optimistic state.

Expect to develop the courage and confidence to try new things. Expect to be challenged to step outside of your comfort zone and achieve things you never thought were possible.

These internal shifts can manifest into things like successfully presenting your pitch to a new client, no longer losing your train of thought or getting flustered, confidently and assertively communicating your needs, influencing the senior leadership team through your proposal, and asking for that promotion. Most importantly, it is about understanding your value and communicating it as clearly and effectively as possible. 

What is the difference between coaching, consulting and mentoring?

Professional Coaching is an ongoing professional relationship that helps people produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers, businesses, or organizations. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life. In each meeting, the client chooses the focus of conversation, while the coach listens, and contributes observations and questions. This interaction creates clarity and moves the client into action. Coaching accelerates the client's progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choice. Coaching concentrates on where clients are now and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be in the future. ICF member coaches recognize that results are a matter of the client's intentions, choices, and actions, supported by the coach's efforts and application of the coaching process.”

First and foremost, I am a coach. I prioritise this approach as it leads to greater self-awareness and sustained results for my clients.

Nevertheless, there are times I also draw upon different approaches, such as mentoring or consulting. Each has its place and it largely depends on my client and their personal needs.

What is the risk in people choosing another coach?

Everyone has their own unique skill and talent that they can offer you. 

 

However, based on the feedback I have received, I have a unique ability to cut through the clutter and get to the core of the real issue. Quite often my clients will come to me with one issue, but we end up on a completely different route which is usually somewhere deeper that has stemmed further back than the current issue. 

 

The good news is, you've already taken the first step in deciding to invest in yourself. However, if you choose another coach which doesn’t have the technical background, practical expertise, and full suite of support to offer you (coaching, mentoring, consulting), you may run the risk of not reaching the real core issue that’s holding you back, and thus reaching the growth and change you need to excel in your career and life.
