back in january 2017, carey and blackmore announced that they were writing a musical for broadway. called half nelson the musical has been written by carey and blackmore and will be directed by carey. the musical will be directed at the lunt-fontanne theatre in new york city. the musical is set to debut in 2018.
in june 2017, carey and blackmore announced that they were writing their first original play. it was announced that the play, entitled initiate, would be directed by carey. the play is based on the story of the late gangster bugsy siegel, who was at the center of the la race riots in the mid-1960s. the story is told through a series of monologues, and was inspired by the playwright sam shepard's work and his iconic character of joe flacco. the play will open at lunt-fontanne theatre in new york city in the fall of 2018. it is based on a screenplay written by carey and blackmore.
a song that should go down in the history books, as one of the best songs ever written about touring. apart from the breathtaking guitar solo, the chorus is the most magnificent musical moment, and the lyrics are (for the first time) written in a modern vernacular, making the song the most accessible since the first purple record. thats one of the things about being a songwriter that ive learnt: you can take a song which should have been written in a foreign language, and make it understandable for those who may not have been exposed to the original. thats what ive done with blackmore's night.
