Moving in NYC feels like a trap—has anyone actually found decent movers?

I’ve lived in NYC for almost a decade, and every time I’ve had to move, it feels like rolling the dice. I'm gearing up for another move soon—just from the East Village to Greenpoint—and I’m already dreading it more than I probably should. I’ve had some rough experiences with NYC movers in the past: one group showed up two hours late, another added a "stairs fee" that I swear was never mentioned.

This time around, I’d really like to get it right. I’m looking for a moving company in NYC that’s actually professional, shows up on time, and doesn’t treat my stuff like it’s indestructible. I don’t mind paying a little more if they’re worth it, but I’d love to avoid getting ripped off again.

If anyone’s had a good experience with NYC movers—especially for small apartment moves—please drop the name. I’d even appreciate warnings about who to avoid. Just trying to survive this move without losing my sanity (or my dishes).

Finding decent movers in NYC can definitely feel like a trap, but some gems exist. I had a surprisingly smooth experience with JP Urban Moving. They were punctual, careful, and professional. If you're feeling stuck, check out https://www.jpurbanmoving.com/nyc-movers/ for reliable service. It’s refreshing to find a company that actually delivers on what they promise in this city.
